Calibration of a Heterogeneous Melt-Cast High Explosive
ORAL
Abstract
A heterogeneous mixture of melt-cast high explosive is calibrated and modeled. Differing mixture compositions have resulted in a wide, sparsely populated range of experimental data. Davis Products and Reactants equations of state in conjunction with the Arrhenius Wescott-Stewart-Davis (AWSD) reactive flow model are calibrated. Thermo-chemical modeling and limited experimental data from a variety of Octol compositions are used. Both shock-to-detonation transition and the diameter effect behavior are captured. A Detonation Shock Dynamics (DSD) calibration is also developed. Use of High Explosives Agile Toolkit (HEAT) developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory allows for rapid re-calibration for an expanding dataset.
