Diagnostic development for dynamic compression experiments at Special Technologies Laboratory
ORAL · Invited
Abstract
Over the last ~ 20 years, a small team of scientists at Special Technologies Laboratory in Santa Barbara, CA have been developing diagnostics for dynamic compression experiments. Since much of our work has been published previously, this talk will summarize some of our unpublished and lesser-known diagnostics and experimental techniques. This includes optical triggers for flashlamp pumped lasers and non-intrusive triggering of experiments, novel velocimetry diagnostics such as our phase-locked VISAR, and ways of recording PDV data from the projectile side of the experiment. This work was done by Mission Support and Test Services, LLC, under Contract No. DE-NA0003624 with the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration. DOE/NV/03624--2124.
