Detonation Performance of the HMX-based High Explosive LX-14

Abstract
LX-14 is a conventional high explosive consisting of 95.5 wt.% HMX and 4.5 wt.% Estane binder. We present a series of rate-stick and cylinder expansion test experiments characterizing the detonation performance (timing and push) of LX-14. The rate-stick experiments provide a diameter effect curve along with detonation front shapes at the different charge diameters. The cylinder expansion test allows for the construction of a product equation-of-state. Comparisons of the detonation performance of LX-14 will be made with the high explosive PBX 9501, which has a similar HMX wt.%.
