Overview of the Community Experiment for Dynamic Compression at HED Using the DIPOLE Laser
ORAL
Abstract
In November 2024, 109 scientists from 32 institutions worldwide participated in a large collaborative experiment using the European XFEL (EuXFEL) in Hamburg to complete the commissioning of the long-pulse DiPOLE laser. This ambitious campaign included 56 projects across five key research pillars: technical developments, phase-transition mechanisms, liquid and amorphous structures, plasticity and defects, and high-repetition-rate diffraction. Over nine days, our collaboration collected a very large dataset comprising more than 1000 laser-only shots and over 1,900 combined laser and X-ray shots. This presentation will provide an overview of the experimental campaign, highlight key findings from several projects, and share valuable lessons learned from this highly productive run.
