Predicting Coincident Muon Rates in Desktop Muon Detectors
ORAL
Abstract
Desktop muon detectors are relatively inexpensive but have a small area, making it challenging to detect coincident cosmic ray muons in any significant number. Using the CRY cosmic ray simulation package from LLNL we predict the sensitivity of desktop muon detector arrays to multi-muon cosmic ray events and investigate the relationship between muon multiplicity and primary cosmic ray energy. Our results suggest minimum requirements for constructing arrays of desktop muon detectors capable of identifying multi-muon coincidences.
