Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation of particle transportation for physics educaiton and outreach

ORAL

Abstract

Geant4 is one of the standard tools used by particle physicists to simulate particle transportations and interactions with each other and surrounding materials. In addition to its extensive usage in scientific research, Geant4 is perfect for physics education and outreach as well. However, it is still largely the pet of some highly tained professionals due to its lengthy and error prone installation process and the lack of an executable application window. Two simple Geant4 based applications have been developed to make Geant4 simulation more accessible to physics students and teachers who know little about C++ programming. A YouTube channel is created to demonstrate the usage of the two Geant4 applications and the general usage of Geant4. It has received 73,564 views and 3100 hours of watching time, which demonstrates the urgent need of more accessable Geant4 applications.
