Using the 6s1/2 - 7p3/2 transition in neutral cesium-133 to create a MOT and measure the temperature of a vapor cell
POSTER
Abstract
In this poster we present progress on making a magneto-optical trap (MOT) using the 6s1/2 - 7p3/2 transition near 455 nm in neutral cesium-133. We plan to use this blue MOT for both outreach purposes and as a lab for Smith's advanced lab class. We also present progress on using a modified saturated absorption spectroscopy setup to measure the temperature of atoms in a vapor cell. If successful, this technique can be used to measure the temperature of gas inside an RF or DC discharge source.
