The electric polarizability of J/Psi

ORAL

Abstract

  • The response of a neutral atom emersed in an external electric field is described in terms of the electric polarizability. The hydrogen atom is an exception in that the electric polarizability can be computed exactly but in the general case it is not possible to find an exact analytical solution. However, it is possible to formulate rigorous lower and upper bounds for atomic systems which can help narrow down the exact solution. In this presentation the method is reviewed and applied to a hadronic system, namely to the computation of the electric polarizability of J/Psi which is experimentally not known.
