ORAL · Invited

Abstract

Physics has historically pushed the boundaries of data analytics and the development of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial intelligence (AI). Today ML and AI offer increasingly valuable and necessary opportunities and resources to facilitate discovery in Physics and Astronomy. This talk will review the historical framework of the symbiotic relationship between ML and the physical sciences, modern examples of ML and AI application to physics and physics-driven ML and AI innovation, and discuss the opportunity and challenges brought on by the recent penetration of ML and AI in all areas of Physics, including new opportunities to diversify STEM, and new ethical challenges.
