Update on CMP and Quantum Materials at NSF
ORAL · Invited
Abstract
The Condensed Matter Physics program at the Division of Materials Research, NSF, supports experimental, as well as combined experiment and theory projects investigating the fundamental physics behind phenomena exhibited by condensed matter systems. In this presentation I will describe the current status of CMP program and discuss some of the program development activities related to the challenges and opportunities offered by the rapidly expanding area of Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE). I will also discuss the NSF approach to the all -- of -- government focus on QISE, stemming from the National Quantum Initiative and the specific plan outlined there for developing US capacity in the area of fundamental research, workforce and translation of QISE.
