Tunneling Probe of Magnons in 2D Alpha-RuCl₃

I will discuss our recent results using tunneling spectroscopy to probe the underlying magnetic order and excitations in the Kitaev material alpha-RuCl₃ in monolayer form. We find a reversal of the magnetic anisotropy together with an enhancement of the Kitaev interaction due to picoscale structural distortions.
