Flagellar motility in shear flows
POSTER
Abstract
Motile bacteria use different strategies to provide activity. Rotating helical flagella is one of the best studied motility mechanisms. Flagella are elastic filaments, and thus are deformable under shear. The deformed flagella change the direction of the thrust force that modifies the bacterial motion. Here we present a preliminary study on the swimming behavior of bacteria in a semi Poiseuille flow.
