The collective snapping of competing buckled beams
ORAL
Abstract
Slender structures are crucial for the design of non-linear mechanical metamaterials. Here we study the collective snapping of buckled beams in contact, and obtain a novel transition between two distinct snapping regimes. We demonstrate the fundamental nature behind this transition and how it can be exploited for implementing sequential behavior, counting and information processing in mechanical metamaterials.
