Controlling the response of a flexible structure in the wake of a rotating cylinder
ORAL
Abstract
We discuss the response of a flexible structure placed in the wake of a cylinder when the cylinder is forced to rotate. By forcing the cylinder to rotate following desired waveforms, we control the shedding of vortices in its wake. These vortices then interact with a flexible structure (for example, a flexible sheet) that is placed in the wake of the cylinder and cause the sheet to oscillate. We show different types of response that can be obtained at different forcing frequencies and for different structures.
