Simple Model for Memory in Cyclically Sheared Amorphous Materials
ORAL
Abstract
Amorphous materials, when periodically sheared, self organize after a few iterations to reach a limit cycle, thereby encoding memory of the driving amplitude.
We introduce a simple model for memory that gives a new understanding of the memory phenomena, seen in a broad class of sheared systems. The model makes many predictions for the statistical properties of memory that can be tested in future experiments.
