A new method for characterizing the structure of knotted polymers

ORAL

Abstract

Numerical simulations based on Monte Carlo methods often require the sampling of millions of polymer conformations. For this reason, it is hard to capture the main features that characterize polymer conformations of given energy or at a given temperature.

In this contribution a method that is able to capture the relevant properties of the structure of knotted polymer rings in a solution will be presented. This method has been already used in [1] in order to understand what are the structural changes underlying the phase transitions observed in knotted copolymer rings. Another possible application could be in determining if the knot in a circular polymer is localized or not.
