Breaking Down Barriers for the Next Generation

Abstract
1 in 3 girls in the United States are afraid to be a leader for fear of others thinking she is bossy. Of girls in 5th grade, 23% do not feel they are smart enough for their dream career, and by high school, this number doubles to 46%. Join our efforts to change this trend one girl at a time!
Inspiring Girls was launched in 2016 in the United Kingdom and now operates in 16 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia, Middle East and North Africa to inspire and show girls that they can do whatever they want to do. In October 2020, we launched in the United States to bring the Inspiring Girls Video Hub and inspirational talks to students across the country.
Our evidence-based model is simple; connect girls with women role models to break down gender stereotypes and open girls up to the various ways in which they can participate, influence, and contribute to their communities. While we connect girls with role models from all walks of life, Inspiring Girls country teams work hard to encourage girls to pursue STEM-fields to address the persisting underrepresentation of women. Our latest study shows that our Role Model Intervention has a positive and significant effect on mathematics enjoyment, the importance girls attach to math, their expectations of success in math, and aspirations in STEM-fields and help break down gender stereotypes.
Join us to learn more about our research findings, lessons learned from our 16 country teams, the unique challenges girls face in the U.S., and what role you can play.
