SecondMuse - Entrepreneurship and Building Economies of the Future

Invited

Abstract

The global pandemic has exposed the fragility of our existing social, political and economic systems in stunning fashion. While some of these weaknesses can be addressed through incremental improvements, there are more fundamental flaws that will need deeper and more holistic thinking. This presentation will discuss how entrepreneurs and the ecosystems that surround them can present a unique opportunity not only to bring new technologies to market in service of solving major global challenges, but how in doing so entrepreneurial ecosystems can begin to build entirely new and more cohesive economies. SecondMuse has brought thousands of entrepreneurs to market and has a capital management arm that is designing new financial mechanisms specifically to this end.

In this presentation the speaker will discuss specific case studies focused on mobilizing and accelerating entrepreneurs throughout the world and identify opportunities that exist for influencing new models of economic growth. In particular he will highlight the unique importance and opportunities for scientists to participate well beyond their contributions to the basic science that informs these technologies. The case studies will speak to pressing global problems such as ocean plastics, climate change and social justice.
