STEAM Program, engaging Youth in STEAM
POSTER
Abstract
STEAM program is a multilevel intervention to promote awareness and science interest amongst youth and the general public. After 15 years of research and students follow up. It is a bilateral collaboration between Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala and Universidad de Guanajuato. The program accompanies students from K-12 levels to the higher education stages to keep them engaged and promote better opportunities for them.
During 2020, we migrated to digital format, facing access issues for students from low-income sectors. The activities have been graded to deliver appropriate content to their grade, level, and the context in a ludic manner, acquiring valuable scientific knowledge.
Before 2020, we outreach over 5000 students, 1500 teachers, and the public. The program was recognized from Reimagine Education 2018 and a finalist in the Falling Walls Science Engage 2020. The digital format has allowed us to reach almost 10,000 persons in 7 months and to deliver personalized workshops for our pilot schools. Students participate as speakers in international conferences, developing leadership, scientific, and communication skills.
