Nanopositioners! What are they good for?
ORAL
Abstract
This presentation will give an overview of what a nanopositioning system is, and more importantly, how this versatile tool can be used across a range of physics applications. We will cover the basic design principles of nanopositioners, how they operate, and their unique attributes. The performance features, such as picometer precision and low noise performance, and their adaptability to various environments, allow nanopositioners to be a versatile tool for nanoscale physics applications. We will provide examples of their use in interferometry, scanning probe microscopes, and single molecule biophysics. Nanopositioners are widely used as stand-alone devices and as component parts of larger nanoscale instrumentation. We provide the example of building a DIY atomic force microscope with atomic step resolution and the use of nanopositioners for single molecule localization microscopy. Mad City Labs in the leading US manufacturer of closed loop nanopositioning systems. We design and manufacture nanopositioners, micropositioners, AFM and single molecule microscopes for industrial and research applications.
