Atomic Structure Underlying Vortex Polarization Domains in Hexagonal RMnO3

ORAL

Abstract

Hexagonal phase RMnO3 systems exhibit polarization domains with complex vortex patterns with density depending on the cooling rate from the high-temperature paraelectric phase. Detailed polarization mapping is being compared with spatially dependent structural and spectroscopic studies to related variations in the domain patters with local atomic and electronic structure. Structural measurements reveal variations on the lenghtscale of the changes in polarization.
