Assembly of microparticles in disclination of LCLCs confined to cylindrical capillaries.
POSTER
Abstract
We investigate the assembly of microparticles in nematic lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals (LCLCs) confined to cylindrical capillaries. Two line defects with double helical configuration is observed for Sunset Yellow FCF with the homeotropic anchoring being obtained by parylene-N coating. Here, we show that disclinations in Sunset Yellow FCF can act as templates for particle dispersions. Additionally, we use magnetic micropaticles to study effect of external magnetic fields on the lclcs. The observed assemblies extend our understanding of the structure of disclinations and ability to design the architectures of soft materials.
