Snapping to reshape origami sheets

ORAL

Abstract

The hunt for pluripotent materials is on. We identify origami-like sheets, shapeable via stretching or bending, as promising game. Local, explosive yet elastic snap-through events let these sheets switch between multiple stable shapes. We study the mechanics of such snapping sheets, focusing on the interplay between macrogeometry, energy and curvature.
