Positive Aspects and Challenges Associated with Program Growth in Towson University's Physics Department

ORAL

Abstract

Towson University's physics department has experienced dramatic growth over the past five years. Many directed and strategic initiatives have been implemented to increase student enrollment and retention. This has resulted in an increase from approximately 60 majors in 2007 to 115 in 2012. Graduation numbers have also seen a corresponding increase. This presentation will discuss efforts taken to produce these results as well as information related to the positive and negative aspects of growth. Future directions and plans to deal with challenges encountered will be discussed.
