Chaotic Plume-Like Bursts in Rimming Flows

ORAL

Abstract

We report a detailed experimental investigation of chaotic, plume-like bursts observed in rimming flows of polymer solutions within a partially filled horizontal cylinder. In particular, we investigate the attractive interaction between adjacent plumes and the effect of rotation rate and polymer concentration on the statistics of these unique bursts. A comparison is also made between the Newtonian and non-Newtonian cases.
