Muon g-2 Theory: current status and future prospects

ORAL · Invited

Abstract

The anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is being measured to unprecedented precision by the Frermilab g-2 experiment, while the J-PARC experiment plans to obtain an independent measurement using a complementary method. This presents a unique opportunity search for new physics at the precision frontier, provided that the Standard Model prediction can be obtained with commensurate precision. Recent developments have created several puzzles in the evaluation of the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution, which is the dominant source of theory uncertainty. I will review the current status of Standard Model theory for quantity and map out the future prospects.
