Prospects for Measuring Higgs Boson + Photon Production in the Triphoton Signature at the LHC

POSTER

Abstract

This investigation studies the photon-associated production of the Higgs boson via vector boson fusion (VBF) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. It takes advantage of the rare Higgs boson decay into a pair of photons. In the proton-proton collision, the weak vector bosons can radiate a third photon, resulting in the triphoton signature. While VBF Higgs production has been studied in more probable decay modes, and the Higgs decay to photons has been studied in other Higgs production modes, this unusual signature has yet to be studied. This work focuses on the kinematics of simulated Monte Carlo signals and background events to characterize the signature using the MaPyDe simulation pipeline, which includes the parameterized performance of the ATLAS detector. The goal is to find kinematic features that could be used to separate signal from the background and to estimate the future sensitivity of the ATLAS experiment to this triphoton signature.
