Cross-section Measurements in Plasma Environments

ORAL

Abstract

The production of high-yield fusion plasmas at the Naitonal Ignition Facitlity provides the first opportunity to study neutron-induced nuclear reactions in a plasma environment. Since achieving ignition in 2022 several experimental campaigns have been working to exploit the intense neutron field to study nuclear reactions which are inaccessible at other facilities. Recent experiments have benchmarked results from the NIF method against the latest ENDF evaluations, demonstrating the validity of the approach. Current efforts are now turning to the exploitation of nuclear-plasma interations to study reactions of relevence to the astrophysical s-process. This presentation will give an overview of the methods used to perform reaction studies at NIF, highlight recent results, and discuss future directions of work.
