Focused Energy's Fusion Pilot Plant: Design and Technical Roadmap

Focused Energy aims to design, construct, and operate a fusion pilot plant (FPP), based on laser direct drive, over the next 15 years. We have recently completed a preconceptual design of our FPP with the goal of identifying key performance requirements, science and technology risks, and subsystem design parameters. These components of our preconceptual design define our technical roadmap - the work needed to realize the FPP - which we will execute over the next decade.

In this talk we will describe the outcomes of our preconceptual study and present the design of our FPP, which we call LightHouse. We will then present the resulting technical roadmap and the overall strategy that we will follow to realize this design on a very tight timeframe. Finally, we will identify some important science risk factors that arise in our design and discuss our technical plan to address them, which includes significant investment in new world-class experimental facilities, simulation and integrated modeling tools, and community engagement.
