Overview of the Infinity Two Divertor Strategy

Abstract

In this talk, an overview of the exhaust strategy for the Infinity Two fusion pilot plant baseline plasma operational scenario is presented. A variety of divertor designs were evaluated for a baseline operational point of 800 MW using criteria including but not limited to adequate impurity control, plasma density control, manageable heat flux ranges, robustness to plasma scenario uncertainties, and power plant integration. Analysis was conducted using DIV3D and FLARE for the initial field line following and neutral interaction code EMC3-EIRENE for further understanding of the operational scenario. Tailoring of divertor components took place with considerations for heat flux management, neutral confinement, erosion, material selection, and engineering requirements related to manufacturability. A focused effort was made to explore the closing of the island divertor to increase neutral handeling while continuing to take advantage of the heat flux management seen in other stellarator divertors.
