Rising Tides Raise All Ships: A Recapitulation of the Tools and Pathways; DPP Responsibilities from a Departing Organizing Collective Committee (OCC).

ORAL

Abstract

The OCC has had profound impacts on DPP over 6 years, with outstanding Workforce and Community Futures Development service to our division and the Fusion/Plasma ecosystem community as a whole. The OCC held three Climate & Inclusion Town Halls, over 30 workshops in Psychological Safety, facilitator credentialing, Undoing Racism, Restorative Justice & Conflict Mediation, and more. Contributions and advising to division-relevant reports such as the 2022 Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee, and to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee in conducting their congressionally-mandated study on High Energy Density science reports. Fearlessly, this committee has continuously championed the inherent worth and dignity of each person as they affirmed the historically marginalized, centered on belonging, and championed bystander intervention - DPP has taken note and have begun to develop, from affirming, to belonging. It is now time for the division to “Rise” and traverse the pathways set forth as a DPP-community to promote workforce and community futures development as a part of a day-to-day portfolio. Much work remains. A division-wide Human Relations Code and Bias Incident Policy, the Queryable Elevation Database, and the formalization of the Affinity Group Caucus to support burgeoning and existing DPP affinity groups are examples of OCC initiatives that are to become integrated into the division to help us Rise.
