Strengthening Culture and Communication: Introducing the APS Department of Inclusion and Collaboration
POSTER
Abstract
In 2025, the American Physical Society established the Department of Inclusion and Collaboration (DIAC) in response to recommendations from an external review of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices across the organization. DIAC was created to advance APS's mission and core values by fostering a culture rooted in inclusion, respect, collaboration, and belonging. Its strategic priorities include integrating these principles throughout APS structures and processes, while also identifying opportunities to scale and strengthen existing programs that support member engagement and community-building. DIAC is developing sustainable, organization-wide approaches to creating a welcoming climate across all APS units. We envision a thriving global physics community where everyone feels a sense of belonging and purpose, diversity is valued as a strength, and collaboration drives scientific progress. This presentation will highlight DIAC's current initiatives, areas of focus, and pathways for collaboration with members and partners across the broader APS community.
