Hot-Spot Energy Balance in an Inertial Confinement Fusion Implosion

ORAL

Abstract

To identify failure mechanisms for an igniting hot-spot formation in an inertial confinement fusion implosion, we must understand the evolution of hot-spot internal energy, which depends on the balance of all power sources and sinks during shell deceleration. Mass ablation from the inner part of the main shell plays a key role in such power balancing. It reduces the power loss and affects the hot-spot adiabaticity condition. This talk discusses the effects of mass ablation on radiation and thermal conduction loss mechanisms and overall energy balance in the hot spot.
