Drift-energy replacement effect in multi-ion magnetized plasma

Abstract
Rotation can improve the confinement and stability of fusion plasmas, However, if rapid rotation is required, significant energy must be invested in spinning up each incoming fuel ion to maintain plasma in steady state. We show that, under the right circumstances, collisional cross-field radial fueling can directly transfer drift energy between outgoing and incoming ions without the need for external power recirculation. [1] Hence, energy cost of maintaining plasma rotation may be significantly reduced by the choice of fueling strategy.
