Bob Dewar and the theory of ballooning modes
ORAL
Abstract
Bob Dewar had a pivitol role in the modern theory of ballooning modes. His first contributions in 1979 elucidated the WKB theory for periodic systems.
His last publication on ballooning modes is in 2011 -- but he was certainly thinking about them in the last few years. I will review this history and Bob's role.
I will also discuss current issues in Ballooning theory.
