On plasma distribution in a NS magnetosphere
POSTER
Abstract
Neutron stars and magnetars possess extremely strong magnetic fields, even in the excess of the QED (Schwinger) field. The magnetospheres are observed to produce strong flares, which indicates production of relativistic electrons and positrons. Plasmas in such strong fields quickly evolve to an effectively one-dimensional plasmas occupying the lowest Landau level, because of the strong radiative loss of the transverse energy. The evolution of the parallel energy is less rapid. Here we investigate the particle distribution of such a plasma in the "magnetic bottle" of a NS/magnetar magnetosphere.
