BHx: An LLE-Designed, Sub-Picosecond X-Ray Streak Camera

Abstract

In order to meet the needs of next generation time-resolved X-ray spectroscopic measurements, a streak camera architecture has been designed to address the limitations in existing platforms. The streak camera will deliver more than 2000 spatial resolution elements at 70% contrast over a 20 mm field of view, feature 2 microns of geometric distortion at the planar output surface, subpicosecond time resolution, and 80% photoelectron throughput. These performance features are enabled by a combination of innovative electron optic design features which have been refined using particle tracing simulations. A prototype of the device is undergoing experimental testing to validate the design. Details of the design features, particle-tracing simulations, and experimental progress will be presented.
