Abstract:

Stellarators are a promising type of fusion reactor, but their design is challenging due to the need to balance engineering and physics objectives. In this work, we use stellarator optimization to find equilibrium solutions that meet a set of physics objectives, such as plasma confinement and stability, while also enforcing strict engineering requirements, such as coil complexity and plasma vessel distance. We use the code DESC with multi-objective optimization to find results that achieve the physics and engineering goals.
