Searching for Magnetic Contaminations in the Neutron Electric Dipole Moment Experiment at Los Alamos National Laboratory

ORAL

Abstract

The neutron Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) has long attracted interest as a promising probe for physics beyond the Standard Model. The existence of a neutron EDM would violate CP symmetry given CPT conservation, offering potential insight into the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. The nEDM experiment at Los Alamos National Laboratory aims to achieve a sensitivity of 2×10−27e⋅cm after one live year of data taking, improving the current best upper limit by one order of magnitude. Achieving this sensitivity requires a rigorous control of systematic effects, particularly those related to magnetic field control, such as small-scale magnetic field inhomogeneities. In this presentation, the magnetic contamination requirements and the development of a dedicated magnetic impurity scanner will be presented. First results from the magnetic characterization campaign of experimental components will also be discussed.
