Measurement of the Isomeric Yield Ratio for Xenon-134 Thermal Neutron Absorption
ORAL
Abstract
The isomeric yield ratio of Xe-135m from Xe-134 thermal neutron capture was determined to increased precision through a 90 second in-core irradiation of Xe-134 gas within the 3-Element Irradiator at the University of Texas at Austin Nuclear Engineering Teaching Laboratory TRIGA reactor. Spectroscopic data was collected within 20 minutes of the end of irradiation using a high purity germanium detector. Improvements to Xe-135m and Xe-135g branching ratios were made with implications for nuclear reactor simulations and nuclear forensics.
