Determination of the 10B(α,α') Cross Section using Python
POSTER
Abstract
Nuclear reactions between alpha particles and light nuclei have uses in a variety of fields, from the study of nuclear astrophysics and nuclear structure to non-destructive nuclear assay. However, reactions such as the 10B(α, α’) reaction have not been well-studied at low energies. Data from the 10B(α,n) experiment conducted at Notre Dame during June 2025 was analyzed to fit the 718.35 keV gamma peaks resulting from inelastic scattering. Using these yields, the differential cross section for 10B(α, α’) at 130°, 80°, and 36° was determined for energies between 2.71 and 4.24MeV.
