Current Status of the Σ beam asymmetry of the a00(980) from GlueX

Abstract
The light scalar meson sector, encompassing mesons with mass less than 1 GeV and positive parity, is not fully understood. This lack of understanding is due in part to these mesons possessing wide widths that overlap with neighboring resonances and include numerous underlying background processes. This work seeks to shed some light onto one member of this sector, namely the neutral a00(980), by way of polarized photoproduction. Using the Hall D polarized photon beam and the GlueX Detector, the beam asymmetry of the photoproduction of this meson is measured as a function of the invariant momentum transfer t, and the results are compared to the beam asymmetry of pseudoscalar meson photoproduction and theory predictions.
