Hadron Production Measurements with EMPHATIC

ORAL

Abstract

Accelerator-based neutrino experiments depend on precise neutrino flux predictions, primarily derived from Monte Carlo simulations of hadron production and transport. These predictions, crucial for neutrino oscillation studies and new physics searches, currently face 10%-level systematic uncertainties—largely due to limited data on hadron interaction cross sections. The EMPHATIC (Experiment to Measure the Production of Hadrons At a Test beam In Chicagoland) collaboration aims to reduce these uncertainties through high-precision measurements of hadron production and scattering using beam momenta and targets relevant to GeV-scale neutrino beams. In this talk, we present the current status of the EMPHATIC experiment, including analysis of the first physics run. We also discuss plans and installation progress for upcoming measurements, which aim to provide the first direct characterization of the hadron spectrum downstream of a neutrino beam target and horn.
