Level densities from n,x reactions (LNX) for isotopes a few neutrons away from stability.
ORAL
Abstract
LNX is a new method to extract the level densities of neutron-rich isotopes by utilizing evaporated particle spectra from (n,p) and (n,a) reactions. It is particularly suited to nucleosynthesis at low neutron exposures that typically proceeds by neutron captures along a path extending within a few neutrons away from the valley of stability. In this region, a direct measurement of the relevant reaction rates still remains out of the grasp of experiments. LNX allows for the level density of several relevant isotopes to be studied experimentally to constrain the reaction modeling without requiring any renormalization data. It can be used, therefore both as a tool to generate experiemental level densities away from stability and as a validation tool for other level density producing experiments. In my talk I will present the results of the first experiment performed at Los Alamos National Laboratory to produce level densities through n,x reactions and compare with results from the literature.
