Toward Comissioning SCARIEST SCORPIONS
ORAL
Abstract
The SCARIEST SCORPIONS (Sideband Cooling, Applied to Radioactive Isotopes in an Entangled State Trap, for Spectroscopy - Consisting Of Ramsey Phase Interferometry - On Nuclear Shifts) aims to extend the King plot nonlinearity analysis [1] of Yb to unstable isotopes. To this end, SCARIEST SCORPIONS will achieve sub-kHz level isotope shift measurements by loading unstable Yb+ ions into a linear Paul trap, and directly measuring level shifts between pairs of co-trapped ions.
The levels in question will be equivalent weak-field Zeeman levels from each isotope, requiring precise magnetic field control in our setup. A dry fit of the experiment was performed and rectangular Helmholtz coils were designed around the setup to provide consistent field throughout the trapping region. Sections of the experiment were redisigned.
