Spectroscopy of 249Md

ORAL

Abstract

An in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy experiment on the heavy odd-Z nucleus 249Md was performed at the ATLAS accelerator facility of Argonne National Laboratory using the 203Tl(48Ca, 2n) fusion evaporation reaction. The Argonne Gas-Filled Analyzer (AGFA) was used to seperate recoils of interest, while Gammasphere detected prompt γ-rays emitted from excited states. Recoil- and recoil-decay tagging techniques were utilised to identify new rotational bands in 249Md based on one-proton quasiparticle states. The presence of at least one high-K multi-quasiparticle isomer was also confirmed. This talk presents a description of this experiment and the preliminary analysis of the data collected from it.
