sPHENIX Pi0 Tower by Tower EMCal Calibration Method and Progress Towards Pi0 and Eta Meson Measurements in p + p Collision in Run 24
ORAL
Abstract
The sPHENIX detector at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) uses the Electromagnetic Calorimeter (EMCal) to detect the energy of photons, electrons, and positrons. In this study, we present methods of absolute calibration of EMCal for all 24576 towers using the decay of the neutral pion (pi0) to two photons. The calibration method relies on invariant mass reconstruction of two photons and is critical for accurate energy measurements in the sPHENIX EMCal. Additionally, we report the progress towards measurements in p + p collision of pi0 and eta meson signals. These yield results will serve as essential confirmation of sPHENIX EMCal performance as well as provide the p + p reference for understanding the properties of quark gluon plasma observed in heavy ion (Au + Au) collision.
