Projecting Sensitivity for BSM Spectral Effects in LEGEND-1000

ORAL

Abstract

The LEGEND experiment is a search for neutrinoless double beta decay (0νββ) in high-purity enriched 76Ge detectors acting as a source and detector. Although optimized for the detection of 0νββ, LEGEND-1000 will be sensitive to spectral distortions due to beyond the standard model (BSM) physics effects. These effects provide additional decay channels or modify the decay rate and spectral shape of two neutrino double beta decay (2νββ) predicted by the standard model. In this talk we present progress on LEGEND-1000’s projected sensitivities for a variety of 2νββ spectral distortions from BSM physics such as Majorons, exotic fermions, right-handed currents, sterile neutrinos, and Lorentz violation.
