SBS GEP Experiment - Simulation Results and Experiment Design Modifications

ORAL

Abstract

Preparations for the SBS collaboration’s GEP experiment at Hall A of Jefferson Lab are well under way. This experiment intends to measure the Sachs electric form factor of the proton up to 12 GeV2 via the recoil polarization method. Performing this measurement up to such high Q2 requires extremely high event statistics and a realistic expectation of what portion of the events will be of use for extraction of the needed observables. With the collaboration’s experience gained from the completed SBS experiments and the continued utilization of more refined simulations, many improvements have been made to the experiment’s design. Findings from these updated simulations, such as management of trigger rates while maintaining high efficiency and reduction of detector background rates due to new shielding concepts will be discussed along with how they have informed modifications of the experiment’s design.
