Abstract
The transition from a post-doctoral researcher to a faculty/permanent staff member includes numerous critical choices, both before and after being hired. The panelists will discuss strategies for approaching those choices, providing guidelines for navigating this stage of a scientific career. The first part of the panel will focus on finding job opportunities, how to approach the job interview, and things to negotiate on if offered a position. The second part will discuss initiating an independent research program, hiring post-docs and graduate students, setting up a lab, balancing teaching, research, and service, and maintaining a healthy life in the midst of all that.
